Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the things businesses ask before they get in touch. If yours is not here, message us and we will answer it.
Getting started
What does TheHelpDeskPlus do?
We look after the technology that businesses depend on: day-to-day IT support, managed IT services, networks, hardware and cloud or email setup, fibre internet installation and support, and cybersecurity and backups. You can use one service or several.
Who do you work with?
Mostly small and growing businesses, offices, shops, schools, clinics, hotels, estates and households in and around Accra. If your business relies on computers, email or the internet, we can help.
Do I need a contract to get help?
Not for a one-off problem. Send us a support request and we will tell you how we can help. For ongoing support, such as managed IT, we agree what is included with you in writing first.
How do I know which service I need?
You do not have to know. Describe the problem or what you want to achieve in the support or quote form, or message us on WhatsApp, and we will suggest where to start.
Support and repairs
How do I ask for help?
Use the Get support form, call us, or message us on WhatsApp. The more you tell us (what you see, when it started, how many people are affected), the faster we can help.
Can you fix things remotely, or do you come to us?
Where it is safe and practical, we can help remotely. When a problem needs someone on site, such as cabling, equipment or a fault we cannot see from a distance, we visit you in Accra.
What should I do before I contact you?
Write down any message shown on the screen, note when the problem began, and check whether it affects one person or everyone. If a device or router is acting up, restarting it once is worth a try. Please do not send passwords by email, form or WhatsApp.
What if work has stopped completely?
Choose "Work has stopped" as the urgency on the support form, or call us. Those requests are marked as urgent when they reach us.
Do you support computers and devices we already have?
Yes. We work with the equipment and software you already use and advise you honestly when something is worth replacing.
Fibre and internet
What is FTTH?
FTTH means fibre to the home. A fibre cable runs all the way into your home or office, which usually gives a more stable and faster connection than older copper lines.
Do you sell internet plans?
No. We install and support fibre connections. We do not resell internet plans. We can help you choose the right kind of business connection and set it up properly.
What does a fibre installation involve?
Running the cable to where it is needed, splicing, and setting up the fibre box and router so your devices connect. We plan the route with you first so the installation is tidy.
My fibre internet is down. What can I check?
Look at the lights on the fibre box and router. A red or missing light on the fibre box often points to a fault with the line, and a power cut or a loose cable can cause the same. Tell us what the lights show and we will take it from there.
Can you set up fibre for a whole estate or building?
Yes. We plan and roll out fibre for estates and buildings, from the route and the cabling to connecting the individual homes or offices.
Security and your data
How do I know if my computer has a virus?
Common signs are unexpected pop-ups, programs you did not install, a sudden slowdown, or files you cannot open. Disconnect from the network if you can and contact us before clicking anything else.
Are my files backed up?
If you are not sure, they probably are not backed up properly. We can set up automatic backups for computers, servers and cloud accounts, and check that a backup can really be restored.
Can you recover files I deleted or lost?
Sometimes. The sooner you stop using the device and contact us, the better the chance. We cannot promise recovery in every case.
What will you ask for when you help me?
Only what we need to fix the problem. If we need access to an account or a system, we agree a safe way to do that with you and we do not ask you to send passwords in a message.
Working with us
How does a quote work?
Tell us about your business and what you need through the Request a quote form. We review it, ask any questions, and come back with a proposal. There is no obligation to go ahead.
Do you work outside Accra?
Our base is in Accra. For work elsewhere, get in touch and we will tell you what is possible.
What happens to the details I send through your forms?
We use them only to answer your request. Our privacy policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights.
Still have a question?
Message us on WhatsApp, call, or send a request and we will come back to you.
